Joe Kennedy III speaking at Wellesley College Club and Student Organizing Meeting

The program for the 2nd Annual BrooklineHub.com Youth Awards is quickly coming together with many exciting developments. It has been confirmed that  Joe Kennedy III will join the event as a guest speaker.

BrooklineHub.com’s Publisher, Harvey Bravman said of this new development,  “We are thrilled to have Joe speak at the Youth Awards.  He has taken a real interest in the kids and their impact on the community.  It means alot that he is personally inspired by the evening and will join us to celebrate and encourage young people making a difference.”

Kennedy himself has an impressive history of service and engagement with youth-related issues.  Currently running for the Massachusetts 4th Congressional District, he served as an Assistant District Attorney for Middlesex County where he prosecuted a wide range of misdemeanors and felonies including assaults, domestic violence and drug offenses. Previously, he served as an Assistant District Attorney with Barnstable, Duke and Nantucket counties.

A graduate of Harvard Law School, Kennedy was a member of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau; a student-managed pro-bono law firm serving some of Boston’s most impoverished neighborhoods. He also served as the technical editor at Harvard Human Rights Journal and co-founded an empowerment program for at-risk youth in a Boston public school where he helped design and teach a curriculum in which students explored their neighborhood’s challenges of crime, drugs and poverty through photography. From 2004-2006, he served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic helping residents gain control over the Rio Damajagua Waterfall National Park.

The 2nd Annual BrooklineHub.com Youth Awards will take place at 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 3rd at the Coolidge Corner Theatre. The event is open to all and admission is free. Voluntary donations and sponsorships from the evening benefit the Brookline Teen Center.
