Make Mother’s Day special this year by treating the important women in your life to fabulous desserts while helping the fight against breast cancer. During the week leading up to Mother’s Day, May 7 through May 13, more than 250 restaurants, bakeries, cafés, and chocolate shops throughout Brookline and the state will participate in the 13th Annual Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.

Participating Brookline businesses include : Boston Pita Pit, Fireplace, New England Soup Factory, Party Favors, Paris Creperie, La Morra, Kookoo, Kookoo’s Nest at Brookline Public Library Main Branch, Cognac Bistro, Golden Temple, and Kupel’s Bakery.

From Monday, May 7 through Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13, the pastry chefs at these Brookline establishments will bake a unique dessert to include on the menu. Desserts start at $3.00 and proceeds will benefit breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc. a newly formed non-profit breast cancer organization dedicated to making a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer was started in 2000 by Carol Brownman Sneider in memory of her mother, Eva Brownman, who lost her battle with breast cancer. Since its inception the event has raised nearly $600,000 for breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber.

“There have been many notable advances made in breast care treatments and research during the past decade, yet breast cancer continues to be a leading cause of cancer deaths in women,” said Eric Winer, MD, director of the Breast Oncology Center and Thompson Senior Investigator in Breast Cancer Research, Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber. “There is a clear need to conduct further research on the causes of breast cancer and to develop better diagnostic tools and more effective treatments, and the funds raised from Boston Bakes enable us to pursue this important work and to focus on our ultimate goals of curing, if not out right preventing, breast cancer.”
