Boston Marathon Race Director Dave McGillivray will be honored at the inaugural Dreamfar Breakfast of Champions, Tuesday, November 19th, 7:30am to 9:30am at the Brookline Holiday Inn.  Proceeds from the first annual event benefit the Dreamfar High School Marathon Team.

“I’ve always believed there is not such thing as an individual award or individaul achievement,” said McGillivray.   “The same goes for me.  This honor should not be about me but about all those whom I have been fortunate enough to surround myself with.  The Dreamfar program is amazing.  I’ve  had the chance to speak to and run with many of these kids.  It is they who inspire us. What I have found is that the main benefit of this program to all the kids is confidence and esteem building.  Once that is established, these kids truly believe anything is possible…and they couldn’t be any more right and proof of that.”

McGillivry is expected to be joined at the breakfast by four-time Boston Marathon Champion Bill Rodgers, 1976 Boston Marathon champion Jack Fultz and Hall of Fame triathelete Karen Smyers.

“Dreamfar is thrilled to honor Dave McGillivray, who will also be joined by elite runners, including Bill Rodgers, who share the belief in the power of the marathon and its ability to help people realize their dreams,” said Jamie Chaloff, founder and executive director of DHSM.

New England’s first high schoool marathon training program, Dreamfar High School Marathon (DHSM) trains high school students to run a marathon in an effort to teach them goal-setting, commitment, teamwork and life skills.  More than 200 students from seven different Boston schools  have successfully completed and benefitted from the program.

“Our student athletes come from all backgrounds and with varied abilities.  We create a sense of community and commitment, allowing students to turn dreams into reality by accomplishing something truly unique,” said Caloff.  “Dreamfar turns the road into a classroom.  Each training run represents a new milestone and symbol of success.  As sutdents cross the finish line at the end of the marathon, they experience the impossible becoming possible and are empowered to tackle life’s next big challenge.”
