The Brookline Rotary is sponsoring its 5th annual Sweet and Savory: Chocolate and Food Festival (formerly known as “Have a Heart Chocolate Extravaganza”) on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 12 noon to 3:00 pm at Pine Manor College (Founders Hall). This year, in addition to the always popular chocolate sweets, Brookline food purveyors will be sharing samples of their savory treats.

There will be many local vendors showing off their tasty chocolate treats, in addition to other food such as sushi and pizza. Some of the local vendors participating include: J.P. Licks, Osaka Japanese, Party Favors, Golden Temple, Pine Manor College, Putterham Grille, The Fireplace, and the Vine Ripe Grill.

In the past, the Rotary Club of Brookline’s Chocolate Extravaganza raised over $10,000 for donation to the Brookline Emergency Food Pantry and other local organizations working to combat hunger. Again this year, some of the proceeds will be donated to local food pantries that help feed the hungry.  There will also be a silent auction showcasing exciting goods and services.

The need for food assstance in the Town of Brookline is great. 13% of the population is living at or below the poverty line. The number of visits to the Brookline Food Pantry increased approximately 14% in 2014 over 2013, while the cost of purchasing the food for the food pantry increased an astounding 21%.

Tickets can be purchased online for $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors and ages 6-9, and free under age 5. Tickets are also available at the door for $25.00. Tickets may be purchased online in advance
