Single head meters with extended hours can be identified by their red tops

Parking in Brookline is about to undergo some alterations – in some places.  Meter time limits remain unchanged, but as of May 1st, specific areas of Brookline will have extended meter hours.  Meters in the Centre St parking lot, as well as those on Beacon and Harvard Streets will be effected.

As of May, meter hours will be extended from 6 pm to 8 pm.  Single head meters with these hours can be identified by their ‘red tops’.  According to Marge Amster, Commercial Areas Coordinator, the red tops have yet to arrive, so there may be slight flexibility in the May 1 implementation of the change.

To help simplify the transition and keep the public informed, temporary signs announcing the change will be placed in the Centre St parking lot. Additionally, Brookline Police will issue ‘violation notices’ rather than tickets between 6pm and 8pm for the first week.

Further, this week the Department of Economic Development is reaching out to update businesses that will be impacted wi the latest developments.
