Theodore Colton, ScD, a Brookline Resident, Chairman Emeritus and Professor at Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH), will receive the 2012 Public Health Leadership Award given by the Friends of Brookline Public Health at their annual meeting on Wednesday January 23, 2013, 6:00-7:30pm in Hunneman Hall at the Brookline Main Library.

Professor Theodore Colton has more than 50 years of experience in biostatistic and epidemiologic collaboration and consultation with health professionals. He served as chair of the BUSPH Epidemiology and Biostatistics department from 1980-1999. He is a prominent educator of clinicians and other medical researchers. He is a founding editor of the journal Statistics in Medicine, and has served on numerous editorial boards. Dr. Colton also authored the textbook Statistics in Medicine, a widely used text in medical schools and schools of public health. Dr. Colton is co-investigator on several ongoing trials at Boston Medical Center and serves on numerous Data and Safety Monitoring boards for government-sponsored as well as industrial-sponsored clinical trials. He is nominated for this award for his many contributions to the issue of valid and ethical scientific research.

The Friends annual meeting will also include a presentation of the 2012 Carlin Community Health Award to Chobee Hoy, owner of Chobee Hoy Real Estate Inc. Chobee will be recognized for her lifelong dedication to service and helping those in need. From the moment Chobee Hoy Real Estate Inc. began, she has used its success as an opportunity to serve the community. In addition to her volunteering efforts, Chobee has served on numerous boards and committees in Brookline and has been an enthusiastic supporter of both the Health Department and public health issues. Through regular Brookline TAB ads, Chobee has showcased public health- promoting National Public Health Week, Food Day and Car-Free School Day.

A slate of officers and Board members will be elected, including Bruce Cohen (President), Rosalie Hermos and J.Jacques Carter (Co-Vice Presidents), and Ashley Galloway (Clerk).
