The two week mark has been reached since Tessa, a rescue beagle recently adopted by Brookline author, Dennis Lehane and his family, jumped the fence and strayed from home.
The search for the tri-colored beagle has garnered local and national coverage, not to mention social media attention. In fact, a Facebook page, “Finding Tessa” serves as a centralized location for additional photos, information on search efforts and sightings.
As of Sunday, volunteer search efforts are concentrating on areas in Brookline Village and Brookline in response to possible sightings reported on Harvard & Aspinwall Streets as well as Griggs Park.
A cash reward and inclusion as a character in Lehane’s next book has been offered to anyone who finds Tessa. It is clear the priority is re-uniting her with her family as soon as possible, though. The concern is that she may be under the care of someone afraid to come forward given the amount of attention the story has received. The author is stipulating that no questions will be asked and no charges will be filed. A recent statement posted to the “Finding Tessa” page specifies, “If you are the person who has Tessa or knows the person who does, when we stated that NO QUESTIONS WOULD BE ASKED if she were returned to us, we also meant THERE IS NO POSSIBILITY OF PROSECUTION. We only want our dog back. If you do have her and are worried about how to release her, please take the following suggestion to heart: Drop her at your nearest veterinarian, pet shelter or fire station. Attach a note to her collar with a number on it. You pick the number between 1 and 1000. A few days after dropping her off, call 813-727-1110 and tell us what that number was so we’ll know you’re the person who dropped off the dog. Then tell us how and where you’d like to receive your reward. Once you get the reward, you’ll never hear from us again unless you want to. It’s as simple as that. And thank you, ahead of time, for rescuing our dog from the cold”.
Anyone with information of possible sightings is asked to call 813-727-1110.
