Thursday, May 3, the BrooklineHub.com Youth Awards returns to the Coolidge Corner Theatre for the second year. Last year, over 350 people braved less than ideal weather to attend the event that celebrated contributions of Brookline’s teens to the community, with all proceeds going to the Brookline Teen Center. Ten awards and twenty-five Honorable Mentions were presented in a community-centered evening marked by the presence of residents, businesses and civic organizations alike. This year’s event promises to be even better.
The nomination process for this year’s Youth Awards is open and will run untl April 12. Those who know of a teen who has gone above and beyond to contribute to the greater good of the community (locally or globally) or his/her peers are encouraged to make a nomination via our online form. Beyond making good grades or earning athletic achievements, we want to hear about kids, between 13 and 19, living or attending school in Brookline, who step up and make a difference in someone’s life. The Youth Awards is all about celebrating and encouraging service, leadership, selflessness, integrity, perseverence, etc
As was the case last year, a nomination committee of community and civic leaders will review all entries. Members of this year’s nomination committee will be announced shortly. Teens selected to receive a Youth Award or Honorable Mention, as well as the person making the nomination will be contacted prior to the May 3rd event.
In addition to raising funds for the Brookline Teen Center through sponsorships, the Youth Awards program presents each winner with a collection of gifts – memberships, cash and gift certificates – all donated by local merchants. Award winners are also featured in videos shown on the Coolidge’s screen the night of the event and featured on the Hub’s YouTube Channel.
With the nomination process opened and the members of the nomination committe soon to be finalized, all in all, the 2nd Annual Youth Awards is shaping up to be a moving and memorable evening celebrating community and our children’s power to make a difference.
