In March 2021 the Remote Learning Academy PTO and the Brookline Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee collaborated on bringing a “Reflections of ‘The Hill We Climb’ project to RLA grades K-8. Students were given the opportunity to respond to one of four experts from Amanda Gorman’s ‘The Hill We Climb’ either through a drawing, a poem, or a short essay.
It was a pleasure reviewing each student’s submission and the MLK Celebration Committee and Brookline Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Relations are excited to share the students’ work with the Brookline community! You can see all of the submissions that were given consent from parents to be shared publicly on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee’s website here:

Later in the summer (July 2021 through August 2021), we will create an in-person display at Brookline’s Town Hall of all participant’s work. We invite you, your families, and your neighbors to stop by Town Hall during the month of July to view the display! Lastly, at the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Annual Event on January 17, 2022, we will present a short video compilation of the winning submissions at the beginning of the program and acknowledge all of the participants of the contest in the printed program. We are hopeful that our annual event will be back at the Coolidge Corner Theatre and we will be able to showcase the students’ work on the big screen!
