lessagesAfter two European tours and an appearance at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club in New York City, acclaimed Canadian puppet company Les Sages Fous (“The Wise Fools”) will perform “The Orphan Circus” at Puppet Showplace Theatre. The show is presented as part of the Puppets at Night series for adults and teens.

“The Orphan Circus” will play for three nights only, Wednesday to Friday November 13-15, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $13-$15 and can be purchased online at www.puppetshowplace.org or by calling the box office at 617-731-6400 x 101. Puppet Showplace is located at 32 Station Street in Brookline, MA. The show is recommended for audiences 13 and up.

Les Sages Fous are known for their unique brand of “unusual” theatre. “The Orphan Circus combines puppetry, clowning, live acting, and ingenious production design to create an unsettling, awe-inspiring theatrical experience. “Imagine a close-up, dystopian Cirque du Soleil,” says Puppet Showplace artistic director Roxanna Myhrum. “Their work is bizarre and grotesque…in a good way.”

Les Sages Fous have been featured at over three dozen theatre festivals all over the world. In New England they have appeared at the Puppets in the Green Mountains festival in Vermont and at the Rhode Island School of Design. Their 2013 Northeast tour includes an appearance in the La Mama Puppet Series in NYC and a showing at the Mayo Street Arts Center in Portland, ME. This will be their first-ever Boston appearance.

About “The Orphan Circus”

Among the debris of a scrap yard two junk peddlers create a circus of derelicts and misfits. In the blind spot of the multinational entertainment industry, this little circus is a victory of the poor and the small; a place where the gruesome become the circus beauties, the old and rusted become the acrobats, and where even impossible love can be fulfilled. Although this circus provides a haven for orphaned objects, recycled artists, and puppets born strange, the troupe is ruled with an iron fist by the mad impresario, Monsieur P. T. Issimo. Rehabilitation or exploitation? It is for you to judge…
