It is with great enthusiasm, that we announce the appointment of Alicia Adamson to the role of executive director of the Brookline Teen Center.

The Brookline Teen Center has always been powered by teens, and so it was an important endeavor to find someone whose belief in their leadership capabilities was steadfast and rooted in their experience. Alicia is a visionary leader who is passionate about young people. She is dedicated to racial and gender equity, empowering the next generation of leaders, and ensuring that all young people are provided with equal access, advantage, and opportunity.

Alicia brings 15 years of experience and success in nonprofit leadership, external affairs, special events, and marketing. She most recently served as Deputy Director of the Boston Debate League where she drove the fundraising strategy, engagement opportunities with companies and high-net-worth individuals, board recruitment, and messaging/communications for the organization. Prior to joining the Boston Debate League, Alicia held key development positions at United Way, and marketing roles at Reebok International and Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions. She has a BA in marketing from Simmons University.

Alicia is the founder emeritus of the National Black Women’s Society Inc. (Formally YBWS), empowering women of color in Boston. Alicia’s leadership has been widely recognized as a GK100 Emerging Leader, a Boston Business Journal 40 under 40 inductee, and with an Image Award by the Boston chapter of the NAACP. She has inspired hundreds of young women from all walks of life while serving as a frequent speaker at conferences, local schools and universities, nonprofits, and churches. She is also the author of Walking In Your Truth.

“Now more than ever, young people need hope for their future and a safe place to grow into the leaders our world has been waiting for,” said Alicia Adamson. “I’m excited to join the BTC to serve as a hands-on leader committed to ensuring our young people have the resources, opportunities, and life-changing experiences they will need to facilitate their growth. I look forward to lifting up their ideas, creating platforms for change, and activating them to pursue their dreams”.

The center opened its doors in 2013, but programming for teens first began in the summer of 2006, with
a summer internship program. The teens were engaged in conceptualizing the center, working with architects and space planners to design and site the building, and assessing the needs of our community. Now, while the building remains closed, BTC’s program continues to engage hundreds of teens in community service, racial justice learning, and teaching workshops to younger teens. While the sand shifts beneath our feet, and so much remains unknown about what the future holds, the teen center remains true to its mission – to provide safety, enrichment, and opportunity for teens to better navigate adolescence and prepare for adulthood.

“We are thrilled that Alicia Adamson will be leading the organization on this journey and have no doubt that our center, its teens, and the town will be better as a result of her leadership,” said Bobby Zuker.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Alicia Adamson as the Brookline Teen Center’s executive director. Alicia will be joining us in August and will enjoy hearing from you at alicia.adamson@brooklineteencenter.org.
