The exhibition, John Wilson: Prints and Related Drawings, will be on display at Martha Richardson Fine Art May 4 – June 30.

This exhibition includes 14 prints by John Wilson dating from 1947 to 2004.  Each print is shown with at least one related drawing, in some cases a study for the print, and in others, a drawing that demonstrates Wilson’s continued exploration of that particular subject.  The artist’s stylistic evolution is evident through the chronological examination of these prints and related drawings, from his early naturalistic approach, to his newfound understanding of the power of abstraction and visual reduction learned in Fernand Léger’s studio, to his work at the Taller de Gráfica Popular (People’s Graphic Workshop) in Mexico City.  After returning to the US, Wilson continued making prints in the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in New York, at the Impressions Workshop in Boston and with master printer Jim Stroud at the Center Street Studio in Milton, Massachusetts. In addition to being a talented painter, draftsman, and sculptor, John Wilson understood the power of prints as a vehicle to reach a broad audience with his message of equality, family values, and social justice.
