Community partners in Brookline, Massachusetts, coordinated by Center Communities of Brookline, have launched a town-wide initiative as part of the Massachusetts Coalition for Serious Illness Care efforts to keep people at the center of their own health care. The next session will be on Thursday, November 1 at 7 PM at 1550 Beacon Street. This event is free.
Play the engaging conversation game “HELLO” that is designed to help players express values and wishes in the event of a serious illness or at end of life. Attendees will leave with resources for “next steps” in their advance care planning. Ailene Gerhardt, Independent Board Certified Patient Advocate (BCPA), founder of the evening’s co-sponsor Beacon Patient Advocates, will share advocacy resources and discuss the value of Advance Care planning.
Funded by a generous grant from the Brookline Community Foundation, program attendees will learn about and play the conversation game Hello, created by Common Practice, that is designed as an interactive way to provide a comfortable venue to have meaningful conversations about “what matters most” to people.
The game is used as a catalyst to be able to express values and wishes in the event of a serious illness or at end of life. Materials are supplied to all attending for “next steps” in their Advance Care planning.
The evening’s co-sponsor Beacon Patient Advocates’ founder Ailene Gerhardt, an Independent Board Certified Patient Advocate (BCPA), will share resources related to patient advocacy and the value of Advance Care planning.
