Join the Brookline Planning and Community Development Department and Stantec Consulting on Monday, October 5 at 6:30 pm at Brookline High School’s 22 Tappan Street building to share your ideas for the Fisher Hill West property. The Stantec-facilitated workshop will help the Fisher Hill West Uses Advisory (FHW) Committee to understand the community’s vision for the three-acre Town-owned site encompassing 110, 124, 150 Fisher Avenue and 146 Hyslop Road.

The Town has hired Stantec Consulting to assist the Select Board-appointed FHW Committee in identifying community needs and preferences; exploring siting concepts for a range of uses; and analyzing related costs, benefits, and tradeoffs. The FHW Committee is expected to deliver its report to the Select Board by June 2027.

Select Board Member Bernard Greene, Chair of the FHW Committee, said, “I invite community members of all backgrounds to envision how this unusually large site next to the 10-acre Fisher Hill Reservoir Park can serve the public and connect residents.”

This rare opportunity has already generated preliminary concepts from Town Departments for a centralized recreation and community center for all ages, as well as interest from seniors and housing and outdoor-pool advocates. Although the study will be comprehensive, no uses have been predetermined.

Chair Greene added, “The Select Board’s charge to the FHW Committee acknowledges the fiduciary responsibility the Town has to the public, which voted for an override to purchase this land. This real-estate study requires complex analysis to balance community needs and preferences, fiscal impacts to the Town, and sensitivity to the surrounding residential neighborhood.”

The Town purchased the west side of the former Newbury College campus in January 2021 for $14.9 million after two years of study, community process, and a Town-wide vote. In 2024, the Select Board appointed and formally charged the FHW Committee to “make land use and potential disposition recommendations.”

In early 2026, the Town accepted a state grant that will be used, in part, to fund the $100,000 study. The grant funds are not conditioned on a particular outcome or specific use for the site. Pierce School students are temporarily using the site’s academic building until January 2028, when construction of their new school is expected to be completed.
