R. Harvey Bravman’s film, Facing Civil Rights, will screen at the Coolidge Corner Theatre on January 9 at 7 pm. This will be followed by a discussion on the state of inclusivity today, moderated by Paris Alston, producer of WBUR’s Radio Boston.
Facing Civil Rights is a work in progress 23-minute documentary film by R. Harvey Bravman. The film first screened at the Coolidge on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in 2019. Six Brookline residents describe their experiences during the Civil Rights Movement and what it was like for African-Americans to move into a segregated Brookline during the 1960s. Also interviewed, Michael Dukakis paints an unvarnished picture of Brookline’s racial and religious climate during this turbulent period.
