It was no game when Eureka! Puzzles presented Rene Feuerman, director of the Brookline Emergency Food Pantry, with a check for $2750.00. The Coolidge Corner shop held a raffle with the prize a two boxes of assorted games. Tickets were sold at $1.00 per ticket, $2.00 for 3. 100% of the raffle proceeds benefit the pantry.
“Last year we raised $1,700 and we were hoping for $2,000 this year and we passed that,” said Lily Maud LeJeune, a Eureka! employee. LeJeune reported that almost everyone who came into the store in December bought a raffle ticket. Or ten. Employees were constantly sweetening the pot, adding more merchandise to the box as the month went on. Eureka! Puzzles ultimately contributed $750 of merchandise.
Two winners received a box each of assorted puzzles and games. They also walked away with the knowledge that their contribution would benefit their neighbors in need.
Meanwhile at The Coolidge Corner Theater, Operations Director Andrew Thompson said the Coolidge collected three full boxes and bags of food donations, and some cash. The theater announced the food drive in their e-newsletter to members, and the response was immediate and generous.
“We’re still collecting,” said Thompson, “we’re going to keep it going until the end of this month.”
