The historic Coolidge Corner Theater launched its annual appeal drive this week. This year every dollar donated will be matched up to $22,000 by the Friends of the Coolidge.
This Brookline institution is one of the nation’s most important, independently operated movie theaters, and it is run by the not-for-profit Coolidge Corner Theatre Foundation. The Coolidge presents the prestigious annual Coolidge Award; high-definition broadcasts from London’s National Theatre and Europe’s Grand Operas; Big Screen Classics; Midnite cult films and sing-alongs; weekend kids’ variety shows; and sneak previews and discussion of upcoming films as part of Talk Cinema.
Contributions are used for a wide variety of programming including:
- Science on Screen®, Big Screen Classics, Coolidge After Midnite, The Sounds of Silents®, Cinema Jukebox®, Kids’ Shows, Box Office Babies, NT Live, Opera at the Cinema, and more.
- Movies you can’t see anywhere else, curated for your enjoyment.
- Maintaining the beauty of the historic theater, along with modern, top-quality sound and projection.
- Keeping the screens free of commercials.
We recently wrote a piece about the history of the theater. Make a donation today on Coolidge’s website.
