Innovacyn Inc. has announced winners in its Vetericyn Groomers to the Rescue shelter animal makeover competition. Casey Mabardy, a groomer at Durty Harry’s in Brookline, partnered with Poodle Rescue of New England to groom Sable, a seven-year-old toy poodle. Casey won more than $600 in prizes from Vetericyn, Puracyn, John Paul PetSalon, Pet Paint, Dog for Dog, Frosty Bowlz, earthbath, American Red Cross, Dog’s Best and Cesar Millan Inc.

The contest, which was open to professional groomers in the U.S. and Canada, asked groomers to make over an animal in need at a shelter or rescue organization. Voting, based on before/after photos, took place online. More than 70 entries were submitted.

Sable is currently in a foster home in Central Massachusetts. She is being spayed and having dental work done, but applications are being accepted for adoption and she should be ready for a new home by early August. She is being fostered with another toy poodle, Sierra. According to Mabardy, they are bonded and the best of friends so it would be great if they could find a home together. “We were inspired by the number of groomers who took the time to really change the lives of these animals and their future families. We heard story after heartwarming story of animals who were adopted almost immediately following their makeovers,” said Tabitha Cromer, marketing communications manager of Innovacyn.

As a thank you to the groomers who donated their time and talent to help animals in need find a home, every entrant received a free bottle of Vetericyn Wound and Skin Care.
