As the April 12 deadline for submitting nomination nears, funds raised to benefit the Brookline Teen Center to date exceed $11,000. Sponsorships provided by local businesses and civic organizations have exceeded that of last year.
“The generousity and committment of our sponsors has been inspiring and very exciting, ” comments BrooklineHub.com Publisher, Harvey Bravman. “Their donations enable us to help support ongoing efforts to build the much-needed Teen Center and formally recognize the contributions of teens in a community-centered evening.”
Scheduled for 7pm on May 3rd at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, the 2nd Annual BrooklineHub.com Youth Awards will feature interviews with each recipient on the theater’s big screen. The filmed interviews highlight the teen as well as their contributions of leadership, service, and community engagement. Says Bravman, “The videos allow us to celebrate the unique ways these kids make a difference in the community, with their families and peers. It’s a cool thing to tell these stories, but seeing them on the Coolidge’s big screen is an amazing experience.”
A full slate of speakers and a musical program is also planned. The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
As was the case in last year’s event, Youth Award winners are selected from nominations submitted online. Anyone can make a nomination. Teachers, parents, faith community leaders, employers, students, and friends – all are encouraged to nominate a deserving teen. The nominees must be between 13-18, live or attend school in Brookline and nominations must be received by midnight April 12th to qualify.
