During the next few months the Brookline Police Department will be conducting sting operations to insure compliance of underage drinking laws. BPD will target all liquor license establishments. These establishments include restaurants, package stores, and variety stores. Brookline does not currently have bars per se, only eating establishments which also serve alcohol. Compliance checks are part of the duties of the Brookline Department’s Liquor Control Officer and will be continued throughout the year.
BPD points out that preventing underage drinking is the responsibility of the entire community. Compliance checks reassure that youths do not have easy access to alcohol and people over the age of 21 are not purchasing alcohol for underage youths, including employees and liquor license holders. BPD hopes that these sting operations and other oversight activities of alcohol retailers increases compliance of underage drinking laws.
