The Brookline Community Foundation (BCF) recently elected Judy Bullitt, Sytkse Humphrey, Jay Lebed, Loh-Sze Leung, and Mike Lindstrom to its Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is currently chaired by Judith Kidd, and now includes a total of 23 trustees, giving their time and counsel as members of the Board.
“BCF relies on the wisdom, experience, and skills of its trustees to provide vision and strategy for the Foundation. Each of our new trustees brings talent and passion to our board, and each embodies the spirit of volunteerism that makes our community strong,” said Executive Director Jenny Amory.
Judy Bullitt and her husband Tom have lived in Brookline for 23 years. She has three children who are currently in various stages of leaving the nest. Judy came to the Boston area after completing her Masters of Social Work and taking her first job at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She has spent the better part of the last 25 years raising her children and diving into all the activities related to full-time parenting. For seven years Judy served as Co-Director of the Sunday school at Church of the Redeemer, where she just completed a four-year vestry term. She had the privilege of serving on the Board of the 21st Century Fund at Brookline High School and now spends most of her time focused on building a mentoring and SAT program for the youth of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Boston’s South End.
Sytkse Humphrey has been active in the Brookline community since she moved to the town with her family in 1975. She is a specialist in early childhood education who recently retired after 30 years of service in the Brookline Public Schools. Ms. Humphrey has also worked extensively with inner city children and families, both as an educator and pre-school director. In addition, Sytske has been a Town Meeting Member since 1999, and in 2000 was appointed to the Town Advisory (Finance) Committee, where she currently chairs the subcommittee on Human Services.
Loh-Sze Leung is the director of SkillWorks, a multiyear initiative to improve workforce development in Boston and in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Prior to SkillWorks, Ms. Leung was the assistant executive director of the Los Angeles Youth Opportunity Movement, a youth education and workforce development program of the City of Los Angeles. Ms. Leung has also served as a program development, research and fundraising consultant for organizations in Los Angeles and Boston. Ms. Leung has a Masters of Public Policy from the UCLA School of Public Affairs with a concentration in community economic development. Ms. Leung also serves as a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Refugees and Immigrants.
Jay Lebed manages portfolios of individual stocks for clients of Boston Investment Advisers (BIA) and Lebed Asset Management. Prior to founding Lebed Asset Management Jay served in various capacities at Lewtan Technologies, a provider of information and software to the asset-backed securities industry. His most recent position at Lewtan was Chief Financial Officer. Jay also serves as co-chair of the Professional Advisors Committee of the Brookline Community Foundation. He is a member of the Smaller Business Association of New England where he serves on the Non-Profit Committee, and is an active volunteer at the Brookline Teen Center and at the John Pierce School in Brookline. Jay received a PhD from MIT in 1988 and a BA from Swarthmore College in 1982.
Mike Lindstrom is currently the Principal of studio MLA / Michael Lindstrom Associates Architects in Brookline, which provides a full range of architectural services in the design of environments for children. Lindstrom has practiced architecture since 1982 in Paris, New York and Boston. In addition to teaching at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, he has served as an Instructor for the Boston Architectural Center and as an Assistant for the Parsons School of Design – Paris Program. Mr. Lindstrom received a Master of Architecture degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a BS in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois.
The Brookline Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that exists to promote a strong, engaged and inclusive community. BCF identifies and raises awareness of community needs, creates forums for public dialogue and problem solving, inspires philanthropy and volunteerism, and advances equal access to community resources and opportunities while strengthening and sustaining local nonprofits.
