Jenny Amory to Lead BCF, Local Resident Brings Decades of Nonprofit Leadership
BROOKLINE, MA – The Brookline Community Foundation (BCF) announced today that the Board of Trustees has appointed Brookline resident and longtime nonprofit leader Jenny Amory to lead the Foundation as its new executive director. She will begin her new role on September 4, 2012.
Amory has more than 25 years of experience in community organizations focusing on women’s leadership and quality educational programs for children and youth. Most recently she served as Development Director for BPE (formerly the Boston Plan for Excellence), a $7 million organization that works to ensure an excellent education for all Boston children. Prior to that position, Amory served as the Executive Director of Teen Voices, a journalism, mentoring, and leadership program for girls in Boston that publishes a print and online magazine worldwide.
“I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to give back to my community as BCF’s new executive director,” said Amory. “I have spent my career developing quality programs that make a difference in people’s lives. I believe in collaboration and partnership, and I am eager to hear directly from residents what is most needed to build an even more equitable and vibrant community in Brookline.”
In addition to her extensive nonprofit management experience, Amory has served on several boards including Third Sector New England and the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation. In 2011, she was honored as a Barr Foundation Fellow.
Amory has a BS in Social Work from New York University and a Masters in City Planning from M.I.T. She has lived in Brookline for 12 years, and her two children, Jeremy and Kyle, attended the Lincoln School and Brookline High School.
Since beginning the search for a new executive director in February, Judith Kidd, Board Chair of BCF, has served as interim Executive Director. “We are very pleased to have Jenny join BCF. With her extensive experience in the nonprofit sector and strong ties to Brookline, we know she is the perfect person to lead BCF, grow the organization and expand its programs to meet the needs of the community,” said Kidd.
BCF is proud to support critical local programs and initiatives including Steps to Success, the Brookline Teen Center, and the Brookline Community Mental Health Center. One of its largest programs is the BCF Safety Net, which provides emergency relief to individuals and families in need throughout Brookline. Since 1999, BCF has distributed more than $5 million in grants to the community. This spring BCF completed Phase One of “Understanding Brookline,” a project designed to gather and analyze socioeconomic, demographic, and other data to better understand the profile of the town of Brookline and recent trends in the community.
