The Brookline Commission for the Arts is now accepting applications from literary artists interested in serving as the Poet Laureate of Brookline for the period of 5/1/2021 through 4/30/2024. The Poet Laureate of Brookline position is now open not only to poets, but also those accomplished in other literary forms, including prose and drama.
Under the guidelines of the program, the Brookline Select Board, on the recommendation of the Brookline Commission for the Arts, will appoint a Poet Laureate for a three-year term with a stipend of $1500.00 per year. The Poet Laureate’s charge is to enhance the town’s cultural life, promote awareness and appreciation of the literary arts and connect members of the community through the literary arts.
The program is open to Brookline residents who have composed a substantial body of work and demonstrated a commitment to the community. Duties of the position will include public performances, outreach to school and community centers, and undertaking creative and innovative projects to energize the town’s residents in the spirit and power of the written word.
Applications may be submitted between now and March 30, 2021. Candidates should submit a letter of interest stating the applicant’s vision for the position, a current CV, and a selection of their work. Application details, forms, and guidelines can be found at brooklinearts.org.
