The Advisory Committee addressed the proposed Bike Lane projects during their meeting last night at Brookline Town Hall. The matter came up on the agenda at roughly 9:30 pm. Tasked with preserving or eliminating funding, the Committee voted somewhere in between.
Three projects that would create a continuous bicycle infrastructure were reviewed. The projects to connect with existing infrastructure across the town line were proposed for Harvard (from School to Aspinwall Streets), Cypress (from Route 9S to the Paul Pender Rotary) and Beacon Streets (from Carlton to St Mary’s Street) without eliminating parking or motor vehicle lanes.
While funding for the proposals was included in the budget submitted by the Town Administrator and supported by the Transportation Board, the Capital Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee recommended its elimination. The Subcommittee also recommended not to fund bicycle lane markings before a vote by the full Advisory Committee was taken last night .
The Advisory Committee voted to fund $48.5 K for bike racks as well as the Harvard Street and Cypress Street projects. The vote fell short of funding the Beacon Street project, however.
