Tonight at 7:30, the Advisory Committee will vote to preserve or eliminate $42,500 in funding three bicycle lane projects. The meeting will be held in room 103 of Town Hall on 333 Washington Street.

The three projects would create continuous bicycle infrastructure on Harvard Street from School St. & Aspinwall St., on Cypress Street, from Route 9 South to the Paul Pender Rotary, and on Beacon Street inbound from Carlton Street to St. Mary’s Street. All three projects would connect to pre-existing bicycle infrastructure across the town line. None of the projects would eliminate parking or motor vehicle lanes.

The Capital Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee, which oversees building, capital improvements, public works and recreation, voted to recommend to the full Advisory Committee that the funding be eliminated from the budget.

The funding for these projects was included in the budget by the Town Administrator. The Transportation Board voted 6-0 to support the measure.

The full Advisory Committee will decide to either support the Town Administrator’s budget and Transportation Board’s recommendation by keeping the funding in the budget or to support the Capital Subcommittee’s recommendation and eliminate the funding.

It is expected that many residents will attend this meeting to support keeping the funding in the town budget. Transportation Board Chairman Michael Sandman is expected to also speak in favor of the proposed bike lanes.
