feed brookline dinnerToday, BrooklineHub.com announced that the 2nd Annual Feed Brookline Dinner to benefit the Brookline Emergency Food Pantry will be held at local favorite, The Fireplace on Monday, April 29. Doors open at 6pm and a dinner will be served at 7pm.

A cornerstone of the Feed Brookline Drive, the dinner is intended to raise awareness about hunger in Brookline and to help fund the Food Pantry’s year round efforts. Costs and demand have increased steadily since the start of the Recession. More people than ever before rely upon the Pantry to feed their families, so the community’s support is crucial to meet this need.

In regards to the Feed Brookline Drive, BrooklineHub.com Publisher, Harvey Bravman commented “Once again, we were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the customer’s of Brookline’s local, independent business community during the holiday season. Efforts to Feed Brookline will continue through the year until the Food Pantry’s needs have been met.”

Given the success of last year’s benefit dinner, Bravman felt The Fireplace was the natural choice. He noted, “Chef Jim Solomon and his staff went above and beyond to make last year’s dinner a memorable evening. Jim is so active in the community, always helping those in need. We are thrilled to support the efforts of the Food Pantry with Jim at the Fireplace.”

The menu for the evening, created by Chef Solomon, promises to be a real treat.  Dinners will enjoy a selection of appetizers that include a roasted fennel, squash and Vermont cheddar tart, steak bites with horseradish cream, maple-glazed chicken with lemon sage aioli, and shrimp & fire roasted tomato chowder with New Hampshire bacon while mingling before the dinner begins.  The dinner opens with at salad of crispy crunchy Vermont creamery goat cheese with heirloom beets, candied cashews, frisée, baby spinach and local maple vinaigrette.  There will be a selection of three entrees; braised lamb shank with acorn & butternut squash stew, Chicopee Wampanoag porridge, pomegranate yogurt cream & sautéed spinach, dijon & chive crusted north atlantic cod on lemony spinach & black lentil sauté and baked fresh pasta layered with tomato sauce & béchamel, roasted fennel, sautéed spinach, three cheeses and toasted garlic chips.  The meal will conclude with a choice of two scrumptious desserts; butterscotch bread pudding with rum drunken raisins and whipped cream and Taza chocolate fudge cake with minted whipped cream.
