BrooklineHub.com today announced that the 1st Annual Feed Brookline Dinner to benefit the Brookline Emergency Food Pantry will be held at local dining treasure, The Fireplace Monday, January 30th. Doors open at 6pm and a dinner will be served at 7pm.
The culmination of 2011’s Feed Brookline Drive, the dinner is intended to raise awareness of the dire conditions facing the Food Pantry and help fund a solution. While the holiday season has come to an end, hunger in Brookline continues year-round and the Pantry needs ongoing support from the community. Long-term economic problems have greatly increased its costs and demand upon it. Further, the amount of money the Pantry must raise to cover the difference between donations and need has also risen steadily. The Recession created a perfect storm when it comes to hunger, and more people than ever before rely upon the Pantry to feed their families.
The reception to this year’s Feed Brookline Drive has been notible to say the least. Even by mid-December, donations collected already exceeded the total tally of 2010’s drive. Brookline Hub Publisher, Harvey Bravman commented “We’ve been delighted by the outpouring of support from the customer’s of Brookline’s local, independent business community. We have pledged to continue running the Feed Brookline Drive until the Food Pantry’s needs have been met.”
When considering where to hold the dinner, Bravman felt The Fireplace was the ideal location. He noted ” I went to my good friend Jim Solomon with the idea of hosting the dinner because he is such a great citizen of our community. He is always there to help those in need. I felt honoring Jim with our presence at The Fireplace on the same night we celebrate the efforts of the Food Pantry would be a natural.”
In addition to supporting the Pantry’s critical work in the community, diners will enjoy a sumptious menu – including braised beef short ribs, black & pink pepper-crusted salmon or baked fresh pasta for entrees in The Fireplace’s welcoming atmosphere.
Chef Jim Solomon, owner The Fireplace commented, “For the past ten years I have seen an increasingly dire food need for numerous Brookline residents. Given the state of the economy and desperate situation of many of our neighbors, The Fireplace is eager to work with the community to help raise money for the Brookline Food Pantry. Please join us on January 30, 2012 for a lovely dinner to help support such a worthy cause.”
Seating is limited, so advance reservations are required. Reservations are $125 per plate, with all profits from the dinner going directly to the Brookline Emergency Food Pantry.
